Looking for: You

I looked up at the starry nights
They seemed dark and dreary
The omens they didn't forecast too well
They seemed to say something weary

I looked into the north winds blowing
They whispered as they came
Their secrets were of a forbidden past
And somewhere I heard my name

I knelt down, my ear to the earth
Their stories seemed like thunder
They told me things I heard before
And all I could do was wonder

I knew they would come knocking at my door
When I was asleep in bed
They would take all I have and go
I knew what was in their head

For no man is free until he frees himself
From the burdens of his mind
The jail’s between two ‘ear’y monsters
They allow some stories to run wild

If one can take these stories in,
These stories strewn astray
And if he can turn the whole of ‘em through,
While sifting corn from the hay

Then maybe there’s a leader somewhere,
Who’ll take his people through
This story hasn’t ended yet
We are looking for you.
